Michael is a monk of St Benedict’s Monastery, Arcadia NSW who has a keen interest in the desert spirituality of early Christian monasticism and its contemporary relevance, especially to the Australian desert.

His first visit to Sri Lanka was in 1976, followed by several visits after he was elected Abbot General of the Sylvestrine Benedictine Congregation 2007-2019 with residence in Rome, but involving extensive travel to the monasteries of the Congregation, mainly in developing countries.
